Foodies feast: dining fast or slow in Scarborough
Scarborough’s location on the tip of a peninsula that is mostly but not quite girt by sea has helped it maintain the ambience of a village rather than a suburb.

Valori Espresso Lounge and Gallery, 71c Landsborough Ave:
The three amigos who run the joint LURV their coffee. If you are of a like mind, this is the place to be. They offer the usual espresso plus filter coffee and the unusual cold press coffee (is this just a trend?). Whatever. Try it and see but get there early as the doors shut at 1pm (that’s what it says on their FB page).

If you love excellent coffee, great service, great views and yummy cafe fare, go no further than this established cafe that uses beans and blends from local Di Bella Coffee. An extensive menu includes everyone’s favourite brekky ingredients such as free range eggs, mushrooms and haloumi, corn fritters and camembert and avocado on toast.
Morgan’s Seafood, Bird OPassage Pde: Location location location. Don’t visit Morgan’s Seafood if you’re in a rush. You’ll need time to drink in the views across the boat harbour as you order your choice of beverage and fresh Australian seafood. If you’re after a more casual experience, browse the takeaway seafood market and check out the sushi and oyster bars.
Tempest Seafood Restaurant and Teppanyaki Grill, Bird OPassage Pde, Scarborough:
Also in an amazing spot, right on the harbour, Tempest staff pride themselves on using locally caught and hand-selected seafood along with locally sourced produce. The menu is seasonal so expect extra fresh and imaginative cuisine. Teppanyaki is pure theatre and perfect for groups.
Baan Phaya Thai, 95 Prince Edward Pde: If you’re looking familiar and reliable Thai, a lengthy menu of classic dishes will satisfy those hunger pangs. Promised is a selection “to please every palate”.
Kashiwa Japanese Restaurant, 119 Landsborough Ave, Scarborough: The reviews say it all. “Amazing food, awesome staff, good portions and great prices.”
