Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run has a distance for everyone and caters to all abilities. Anyone can do it; age is no obstacle with bubs in strollers to seniors aged 80+ in the running (or walking) for a finisher’s medallion.

You can choose from a 3km, 5km, 10km or 21km loop that follows the scenic Redcliffe Peninsula. Families with young children can enjoy the 3km and 5km events, which have no age restrictions.

The course along the waterfront extends as far as Scarborough for the 21km runners, who kick off the staggered event from Pelican Park, Clontarf, at 6.00am. The 3km fun run/walk punters are the last to start at 8.30am.

This year the event is raising funds for Chameleon Housing, with a portion of every entry fee donated directly to this important cause.

The Kindred Healthy Living Expo is back again this year with plenty to see and do including health services, active wear, footwear, gyms, supplements and personal training groups.

Pelican Feeding @ Clontarf Park

Watch the delight on the kids faces as they experience the morning feeding of the quirky Pelicans at Clontarf Park.

Bring the kids to Pelican Park, situated along the Redcliffe peninsula in Clontarf, only 10 minutes drive from Scarborough, for a morning of Pelican feeding by the beach.

Every morning at 10am, the volunteers at Clontarf Visitor Information Centre bring out a bucket of fresh fish to feed the local Pelican population. The Pelicans often gather an hour in advance in anticipation of their fishy feast while the caring volunteers check the sea birds for any injuries.

Kids and adults alike are most welcome to observe these metre tall birds up close while the Pelican feeding takes place. The Pelican numbers tend to fluctuate from day to day as they continuously search for fresh food sources (their favourite meals being flathead, whiting and bream).

The park, aptly called Pelican Park is located at the southern end of Redcliffe Peninsula just next to Bells Beach. Apart from the huge feathered friends that visit daily, Pelican Park boasts an all-abilities playground with a Liberty Swing overlooking the bay. There is also a fully fenced boat-themed playground with undercover electric barbecues, picnic tables, toilet facilities, boat ramp and stretches of golden sand.

It’s just another fantastic family-friendly thing to do on the Redcliffe Peninsula during the summer school holidays.

Costco and IKEA, then chill out at the beach

Ever thought about combining a shopping expedition with a mini break?

A weekend (or even weeknight) at the beach is the perfect way to de-stress before, during or after searching for your dream kitchen at IKEA or stocking up on bulk household items at Costco.

Costco North Lakes and IKEA North Lakes are about 15 kilometres (that’s about a 20-minute drive) to the calm sandy beaches of Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

After a day spent dragging the kids from pillar to post in the quest to find a comfy couch or going through the exhausting process of shopping for life’s necessities, a night at a family- friendly resort directly opposite the beach is the ideal solution to shopping burn-out.

If you’re coming from out of town, it makes perfect sense to end a hectic day with a mindful stroll along the beach followed by a spa and sauna at Scarborough Beach Resort.

If retail therapy is your thing, there’s the option of heading back along the Bruce the next day for another dose. Unless, that is, you decide to linger longer!
