Meet a koala and other iconic wildlife at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
For 90 years, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary has been the first point of contact for many people enchanted by one of Australia’s most iconic native animals.
With their chocolate-button eyes, fluffy ears, stout bodies and silver grey to brown fur, koalas have a most recognisable and loveable appearance.
About 130 of these adored herbivorous marsupials reside at the sanctuary, which is also home to a wide range of wildlife that is uniquely Australian.
The shy platypus, fearsome Tasmanian devil and dingo are also sanctuary residents.
The sanctuary has hands-on experiences with photo opportunities included: hold a koala and get close to a snake and birds of prey.
Daily shows include wild lorikeet feeding, free-flight raptor show and sheepdog show.
Free outdoor movie screenings run on the first and third Friday of the month at 6pm – it’s BYO blankets in a comfy amphitheatre next to the Riverside Cafe.
If you’re after a snack or something more substantial, Lone Pine Markets is open from 4-8pm, serving up local and international delights.
When: Open 7 days a week, 9am-5pm
Where: 708 Jesmond Rd, Fig Tree Pocket
