New Rail Line Comes to Redcliffe Peninsula

It is now so much easier to travel to the Redcliffe Peninsula from the Brisbane CBD with a new rail line opened between Petrie and Kippa Ring. You can leave the city and 60 minutes later be on the beautiful sparkling water of Moreton Bay at Scarborough.

The station at Kippa-Ring is located on Hindmarsh Street and is only a 6 minute drive to Scarborough that will make it even more convenient for visitors to the Peninsula.

rail-line-redcliffe

In addition to the this the new rail service will provide:

  • an upgraded Petrie station
  • more than 650 new weekly train services
  • trains every six to 12 minutes in peak times
  • express services all day

During your stay in Scarborough it is worth jumping on the train and visiting the suburb of Petrie that is a wonderful little spot with a village atmosphere and an interesting historic past.

Petrie

In Petrie you can explore and discover the unique history of the region at Old Petrie Town. Here you will find historical buildings, pottery and blacksmiths’ workshops, a fire museum, steam and engine museum, quality speciality shops, handmade gifts and crafts, and a great heritage restaurant.

Set in an original timber building from the 1880s, the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum holds a unique collection of colonial and convict artefacts and provides a largely interactive modern take on local history.

For great shopping Petrie is very close to both Westfield Strathpine and Westfield North Lakes. Both are large shopping complexes with dozens of specialty shops, Big W, Target, Woolworths and Coles, and varied and diverse eateries.

North Lakes

Jump off the train at Mango Hill Station and check out North Lakes. This new outer suburb offers superb shopping with Westfield Shopping Centre, Costco Warehouse, IKEA store as well as both a Bunnings Warehouse and Masters Home Improvement store.

North Lakes also has great sporting facilities with North Lakes Resort Golf Club and North Lakes Aquatic Centre or relax in the sun at Lake Eden.

It is great news for the Redcliffe Peninsula to have this new train service that will open up the area and make it easier for visitors to get out and about in the Moreton Bay region.

Beaches on the Peninsula

Scarborough does have its very own gorgeous park-fringed beach directly across the road from Scarborough Beach Resort. However it is a good idea to explore some of the other lovely beaches on Redcliffe Peninsula.

Clontarf Beach – with its sprawling expanse of bayside walkways and bikeways, plentiful parks and picnic facilities and designated off-leash areas, Clontarf is an ideal place to bring the family, including the dog, to enjoy a day out by the water.

Margate Beach  boasts the longest mainland stretches of sand beach together with a trendy 2 km redeveloped timber boardwalk. With clean white sand and sheltered waters this area a favourite dipping spot for families with young children.

Queens Beach North – Scarborough – on Flinders Parade, Scarborough is a great alternative to Scarborough Beach.

Settlement Cove Lagoon – Redcliffe – this is the prime place to beat the heat in a shallow lagoon style pool that is patrolled by a lifesaver during summer. Kids love swimming in the cool water right beside the sea.

Suttons Beach – Redcliffe – is fully patrolled by lifeguards and boasts picturesque band rotundas, numerous barbeque facilities, gazebo-style dining, bikeways, toilet blocks, disabled access, plenty of space and a large playground for children.

Woody Point Beach – at the southern end of the Redcliffe Peninsula, Woody Point is the final resting place of the heavily armed ‘Gayundah’ warship wreck which first took to the water in 1885 before being decommissioned in 1958. But also is a lovely little seaside village with beaches and parks lining the foreshore.
