Pelican Feeding @ Clontarf Park
Watch the delight on the kids faces as they experience the morning feeding of the quirky Pelicans at Clontarf Park.
Bring the kids to Pelican Park, situated along the Redcliffe peninsula in Clontarf, only 10 minutes drive from Scarborough, for a morning of Pelican feeding by the beach.
Every morning at 10am, the volunteers at Clontarf Visitor Information Centre bring out a bucket of fresh fish to feed the local Pelican population. The Pelicans often gather an hour in advance in anticipation of their fishy feast while the caring volunteers check the sea birds for any injuries.
Kids and adults alike are most welcome to observe these metre tall birds up close while the Pelican feeding takes place. The Pelican numbers tend to fluctuate from day to day as they continuously search for fresh food sources (their favourite meals being flathead, whiting and bream).
The park, aptly called Pelican Park is located at the southern end of Redcliffe Peninsula just next to Bells Beach. Apart from the huge feathered friends that visit daily, Pelican Park boasts an all-abilities playground with a Liberty Swing overlooking the bay. There is also a fully fenced boat-themed playground with undercover electric barbecues, picnic tables, toilet facilities, boat ramp and stretches of golden sand.
It’s just another fantastic family-friendly thing to do on the Redcliffe Peninsula during the summer school holidays.
