Jerry Seinfeld performs at Brisbane Entertainment Centre

WHEN: Wednesday, August 9, 2017
WHERE: Brisbane Entertainment Centre

The comedian whose sitcom “about nothing” is still being aired on mainstream TV almost 20 years after the final episode jets into the country for a national tour this August.

Jerry Seinfeld was already a star on the stand-up comedy circuit before he and friend Larry David created his eponymous TV show in 1989.

Seinfeld introduced catchphrases such as “Yada yada yada”, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”, “Double-dipping”, “Re-gifting” and “No soup for you” to the world.

The maddeningly self-absorbed characters of George Costanza, Elaine Benes and Cosmo Kramer were unleashed onto the small screen, careening from one inane disaster to another without remorse or reflection.

In the show, Seinfeld played a fictionalised version of himself and was very much a party to the shenanigans that mostly took place on a set dressed as his Manhattan apartment.

The last episode of the show was recorded in 1998, and in 2013 it was voted the second greatest television series ever – after The Sopranos.

Seinfeld is returning to Australia for the first time in 18 years to perform his unique stand-up across the country in Seinfeld LIVE.

In an interview, he said his show would be similar to one he recently performed during a 12-month residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

Seinfeld LIVE would have to be a highlight on the Brisbane Entertainment Centre’s 2017 calendar.

If you managed to snaffle up tickets (they’re rare as hens’ teeth), why not give yourselves the five-star treatment by checking into Scarborough Beach Resort?

We’d love to entertain you!

Where: Outside Kmart

If they can’t get enough of Shaun the Sheep, then there’s always the sheep plaster decorating workshop in the second week of the holidays.

When: Monday, July 3, to Friday, July 7, 2017
Where: Outside Kmart

Both events are free.

If the kids are that little bit older, the on-site Hoyts Cinema has a holiday movie selection to keep them smiling, including Despicable Me3, Cars 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight.

When all that is done and dusted, it’s time to explore the rest of the centre, which has undergone a $4 million upgrade that includes new customer seating zones, improved access and refurbished interiors and amenities.

Coles, Kmart, about 70 other specialty stores and a food court are in the renovated premises.

Let’s go fly a kite at Redcliffe KiteFest

When: Saturday, August 26, and Sunday, August 27 (9am-4pm on both days)
Where: Pelican Park, Hornibrook Esplanade, Clontarf

Ever seen a blue whale floating, not in the ocean, but in the sky – above Redcliffe Peninsula?

If not, you must have missed this spectacle when a blue whale kite, built to scale, was one of many amazing structures hovering over Pelican Park in Clontarf as part of last year’s Redcliffe KiteFest.

You won’t want to miss this year’s annual kite-flying festa, which has become the launch pad for the annual Redcliffe Festival.

Every year, kite-flying veterans from overseas and Australia gather to present a dazzling display of ingeniously constructed kites that last year included a zero-wind kite. Yes, that’s right – a kite that flies without any wind!

Professional kite flyers come from as far afield as Malaysia, China and New Zealand. Our very own kite enthusiasts from Redcliffe Kite Club also put on a terrific show.

Amateurs and families are encouraged to get involved to create their own kite at a kite making workshop or bring a kite from home to fly in the public kite-flying zone.

The two-day event has loads of other activities that include markets, roving performers and musicians, jumping castles, the KiteFest KidZone with heaps of free activities for children under 10 and a free BubzHub chill-out zone for parents and babies.

Pop this one in the diary because it’s going to be as “big as a whale”.

Summer Activities in Redcliffe

Scarborough is the perfect place to base yourself during your Summer holiday on the Redcliffe Peninsula with plenty of fantastic Summer activities available in nearby Redcliffe.

These are the top 5 Summer activities in Redcliffe that will keep you both cool and thoroughly entertained:

 1. The Iconic Redcliffe Jetty

Good for fishing, walks, photography or quiet contemplation, the jetty is the centrepiece of Redcliffe.  It’s been considered the ‘heart of the peninsula’ ever since ships carrying holiday makers started arriving in the late 1800s.

2. Suttons Beach

This patrolled beach that stretches for about a kilometre, is perfect for families with young children. Suttons Beach is close to everything – the jetty, the markets and all of the shops along the main road – so it’s easy to pop over to grab something to eat or drink. The beach hugs the shoreline closely, and there are numerous BBQs and small park areas set up along the way. A great place to play in the water with the kids and have picnic lunch afterwards.

3. Settlement Cove Lagoon

As an alternative to the beach Redcliffe also has it’s own free waterpark – Settlement Cove Lagoon. Located on Redcliffe Parade, it’s close to Suttons Beach, the jetty and the markets. It is patrolled by lifeguards during daylight hours and has it’s own picnic areas too. The lagoon has shallow wading pools as well as deeper sections and a children’s section. There are shower and toilet amenities available for use. The kids will love this swimming lagoon!

4. Humpybong Creek Precinct

The Humpybong Creek Precinct is located on the corner of Creek street and is home to many varieties of bird and fish. There are beautiful fountains, lush green grass, bridges and picnic areas to take advantage of. This is a great place for any budding photographers too, or bird-watchers wanting to get some close-up encounters. It’s a great place for a picnic or just to feed the ducks.

5. Redcliffe Rail Line Shared Pathway

Get on your bike and enjoy 12 kilometres of pathways running adjacent to the new Redcliffe Peninsula Rail Line. The Redcliffe Peninsula Rail Line opened in October 2016 – bringing with it a whole new shared pathway available for walking, running, skating, or perhaps best of all, cycling. The new rail extension goes all the way from Petrie (on the train line between Brisbane and Caboolture), to Kippa-Ring. Along the way the developers have done a wonderful job in engaging artists in the local community to contribute to various murals along the way, plus you may get to seem some Australian wildlife in the bush.

Picnic in Scarborough Beach Park on Australia Day

Head across to Scarborough Beach Park this Australia Day on Thursday 26 January for a picnic under one of the shady trees by the seaside or in one of the picnic shelters.

The two playgrounds here will keep the kids entertained for hours with the choice of Pirate Place or Railway Place. Both playgrounds are fully fenced and partly shaded. There is also the Cotton Tree Forest, within the fenced play area, which is full of wonderful old cottonwood trees that offer exciting climbing opportunities for the kids.

Railway Place features shelter sheds and picnic tables, a sand-based play area with permanent sand tables and toys, a stationary train with a track running throughout the play space, a climbing net, swings, balancing equipment and more.

Whilst Pirate Place has a boat fort, sheltered area, seesaw and Cotton Tree Forest. Outside the fenced area are sheltered picnic tables and barbecues which all look over the glorious Scarborough Beach.

After a play in one or both of the playgrounds the kids can safely swim in the calm waters of Moreton Bay. When the kids are hungry cook a tasty snag or two on the electric BBQs provided in the park.

What a fabulous way to spend Australia Day!
