The Big Pineapple

Ride the Pineapple train, visit Wildlife HQ Qld Zoo or try a bite to eat at The Pineapple Shop and Café. Why not try the signature Big Pineapple Fruit Salad Parfait! The Big Pineapple is also the site for the Big Pineapple Markets each Saturday from 6:30am until 1pm, boasting indoor and outdoor stalls. Each year they host the Big Pineapple Music Festival.

Redcliffe Museum

For an interesting walk down memory lane and into Redcliffe’s historic Peninsula and community, the Redcliffe Museum is a great free activity for visitors.

The Museum and its collections offers an intriguing insight into this unique region: its European history since 1799, its heritage as Queensland’s first European settlement in 1824-25, its much older indigenous culture, its rich maritime history, and the pleasures and surprises of bayside life.

Redcliffe Museum offers a changing showcase of temporary exhibitions developed through local partnerships, or touring from our State and National museums, has a Kid’s Zone, Fun in the Sun Theatrette and a Museum Shop.

Entry is free and the Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm

Scarborough Boat Hire

Hire a boat for the day and explore the magnificent Moreton Bay. Boab Boat Hire offers top quality self drive hire boats and are the only hire boats in Brisbane that you can take off shore with a normal boat licence.

You can take their boats outside Moreton Bay and up to 5 Nautical Miles (just under 10km) offshore. Destinations like Tangalooma and Moreton Island for a spot of fishing, snorkelling or swimming.

Moreton Island Boat Cruise

This month we are looking at things to do with kids during your stay at Scarborough. One of the most exciting day tours out of Scarborough is a day out cruising to Moreton Island in Moreton Bay.

Dolphin Wild, cruises out to Moreton Bay Marine Park which is home to a variety of marine animals such as playful dolphins, huge turtles, shy dugongs and the majestic humpback whale passes through these waters from June to October. Along the way you will receive an informative commentary by a marine naturalist including the unique history of Moreton Island and its marine life.

The day includes a guided snorkelling tour at either Tangalooma Wrecks, which is world renowned for its richly diverse marine environment with 15 scuttled wrecks and a myriad of marine life, or Flinders Reef which is a small isolated reef that has a large number of coral and fish species.

Boondall Wetlands Walk

Take a guided nature walk to discover the hidden treasures of Boondall Wetlands Reserve.  On the walk you will learn some interesting facts about the wetlands and their flora and fauna; and find out why Boondall Wetlands Reserve and its ‘sister wetlands’ in Yatsu-Higata Tidelands in Japan, are both crucial wetlands for the thousands of migratory shorebirds that travel between Asia and Moreton Bay each year.

Walks are held on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year and start from Boondall Wetlands Environmental Centre at 31 Paperbark Drive, Boondall.

South Bank Parklands

Maleny and Montville

The beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland and the charming towns of Maleny and Montville are not much more than an hour north of Brisbane. With an average elevation of 450m, the cooler temperatures in the hinterland offer a cool change from the coast.

Maleny, Montville and surrounding areas, are mainly lush green farmlands and are rich with skilled artisans. The arts and crafts in both villages are an art lover’s delight.

Maleny has an abundance of restaurants, cafes and dining options available, both in the town and on its outskirts. But there is also the Maleny Dairies which is open to visitors on weekends or The Maleny Cheese Factory which is a popular place to buy all sorts of different cheeses.

Montville is Maleny’s sister town, and the more shopping orientated of the two, with its main street lined with all sorts of different shops. Its location on the range overlooking the Sunshine Coast, makes it a popular place to stop and take photos or have a picnic lunch.
