During your stay at Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula get out and about and explore some of the region. There are heaps of destinations to be discovered on a road trip within two hours drive of Scarborough.
There are scenic mountain drives, vineyards, farmlands, coastal towns, island paradises, beaches and much more…….
D’Aguliar National Park
D’Aguliar National Park boasts two spectacular regions – the South D’Aguilar section at the southern end of the park, and the Mount Mee section at the northern end of the park. South D’Aguilar has abundant picnic areas and walking tracks, and a beautiful scenic drive through eucalyptus forests past Mount Nebo and on to Mount Glorious.
Lookouts dot the landscape, providing amazing views of Moreton Bay, the Glasshouse Mountains, and crystal clear rainforest pools. D’Aguilar National park is only 41 kilometres from Scarborough. For more information on the park visit Parks Queensland.
Glass House Mountains
These amazing mountains are a group of thirteen hills that rise abruptly from the coastal plain on the Sunshine Coast, and can be seen for kilometres. Anytime of the year is a great time to bushwalk or picnic in the beautiful Glass House Mountains National Park.
There are walking tracks for hikers of varying levels of fitness. The tracks range in length from 800 metres to the longest track being 6km, which will take around 3 hours. Along the tracks are picnic tables and toilets and at the Glass House Mountains lookout there are BBQs. If you’re into thrillseeking then Rockclimbers and Abseilers can also enjoy the rocky outcrops.
The Glasshouse Mountains are a 48 kilometre drive north of Scarborough on the Bruce Highway.
Sunshine Coast Beaches
In just over an hour you can be on one of the beautiful Sunshine Coast beaches. The Sunshine Coast is a long coastal strip that starts on the southern end at Caloundra and continues all the way north to Noosa. Take your pick of beaches or enjoy some of the other famous Sunshine Coast attractions.
The southernmost beaches of the Sunshine Coast are located in the town of Caloundra. Begin your day at the Kings Beach ocean pool and follow the well-maintained track around the Caloundra headland. Pass by Shelly Beach and enjoy the views north before heading down to Moffat Beach and over Tooway Creek before arriving at the aquatic playground of Dicky Beach.
Sunshine Coast Hinterland
Drive into the verdant lush Sunshine Coast Hinterland and visit the small artisan villages such as Maleny, Montville and Mapleton. Feast on delicious local farm fresh produce, taste some local wines, browse arts and crafts galleries, visit the waterfalls, walk through rainforests and take in the spectacular views
The scenery on this amazing drive is magical, as you initially leave the Bruce Highway at Beerwah and drive through the Glass House Mountains until you gradually ascend into the hinterland. Maleny is only 71 kilometres from Scarborough.
If you don’t want to drive to the Sunshine Coast but would like to spend a nice day at the beach, Bribie Island is only a distance of 59 kilometres away. Bribie Island is one of natures most impressive feats, a sand island full of natural wonders. Located in the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland Australia, Bribie Island is surrounded by natural beauty and full of history.
There is a range of things to do and see on Bribie Island including relaxing on beaches, kayaking in the crystal clear waters, watching spectacular birdlife or catch the ferry up the Pumicestone Passage and discover the history and wildlife.

Watch the delight on the kids faces as they experience the morning feeding of the quirky Pelicans at Clontarf Park.
Bring the kids to Pelican Park, situated along the Redcliffe peninsula in Clontarf, only 10 minutes drive from Scarborough, for a morning of Pelican feeding by the beach.
Every morning at 10am, the volunteers at Clontarf Visitor Information Centre bring out a bucket of fresh fish to feed the local Pelican population. The Pelicans often gather an hour in advance in anticipation of their fishy feast while the caring volunteers check the sea birds for any injuries.
Kids and adults alike are most welcome to observe these metre tall birds up close while the Pelican feeding takes place. The Pelican numbers tend to fluctuate from day to day as they continuously search for fresh food sources (their favourite meals being flathead, whiting and bream).
The park, aptly called Pelican Park is located at the southern end of Redcliffe Peninsula just next to Bells Beach. Apart from the huge feathered friends that visit daily, Pelican Park boasts an all-abilities playground with a Liberty Swing overlooking the bay. There is also a fully fenced boat-themed playground with undercover electric barbecues, picnic tables, toilet facilities, boat ramp and stretches of golden sand.
It’s just another fantastic family-friendly thing to do on the Redcliffe Peninsula during the summer school holidays.
