Caboolture Historical Village

Talk a stroll down memory lane at the Caboolture Historical Village just north of Caboolture on the old Bruce Highway.

The Historical Village is situated on 4 hectares and is listed as the Number One Tourist destination in the region with over 70 buildings, and more than 110,000 museum pieces. Visitors are able to walk through the visitors centre and step out into a Village of yesteryear.

The street with the old post office, barber, butcher and general store will bring back memories for many, however there is much more including an exhibition from the Queensland Prison’s Museum, the old Caboolture Hospital, several cottages that were moved from various sites around Caboolture, the old Caboolture Railway Station, and a popular exhibit with models of ships from the First Fleet to arrive in Sydney in 1788.

A great history lesson for the children! During school holidays, children are entertained by a variety of activities and opportunities to explore within the Village. Special events are held throughout the year.

You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch and sit around the lawns, or at a picnic table, or you can eat at either the Redhall Cafe or the Boiling Billy Tea Room.

Scarborough Beach Park

Being sheltered from open water by Moreton Island, Scarborough Beach has calm, surf-free beaches which are perfect for families with younger children.

At low tide, the waters of Scarborough Beach are only knee-deep until about a hundred metres out from the shore and fish and even the occasional stingray can be seen through the crystal clear water.

A short walk up the beach will bring you to volcanic rock pools full of colourful crabs and other creatures, where the kids can explore and discover all types of sea life.

Once the kids get tired of the beach, Scarborough Park is adjoining the beach. The park has two sections, one with an adventure playground and the other with amazing cotton trees which have been growing for decades and twist around one another and are great for climbing.

The kids will never be bored for entertainment at Scarborough Beach these summer holidays.

Woody Point & The Gayundah Shipwreck

On the southern end of the Redcliffe Peninsula and on the opposite point to Scarborough is Woody Point. Only a short driving or cyling distance of 7km it is worth a visit during your stay at Scarborough.

Woody Point is a nice relaxed seaside village with two historic hotels (The Palace where the Bee Gees started and the award winning Belvedere), charming eateries, seaside arts and craft shops.

Woody Point is mostly renowned historically for being the landing spot of Matthew Flinders in 1799,and is the final resting place of the HMQS Gayundah wreck which first took to the water in 1885 before being finally decommissioned in 1958.

Up until the end of World War I she was used as a mine sweeper and sea tender ship and by 1919 had been decommissioned, sold to civilians and was thereby stripped and demoted to a gravel barge.

By 1958 she was retired and towed to the base of the cliffs at Woody Point where she has since acted as a breakwater, protecting the shore not from the enemy but from erosion.
